The Story of Our Founder
The Rug Center was founded by Mr. Javeed Chaudhry, whose lifelong passion for rugs began in his family’s rug-making tradition in Pakistan.
In 1980, Mr. Chaudhry traveled to Atlanta, Georgia, to attend a major rug exhibition and explore opportunities in the American market for his family’s business. In 1981, he relocated to New York, where he established a successful rug importing and wholesale operation, supplying retailers throughout the United States.
After fourteen prosperous years in New York, Mr. Chaudhry moved to California in 1994. He and his family settled in Palo Alto and opened a retail and wholesale rug business. Through his knowledge, integrity, and dedication to quality, he quickly became recognized as one of the San Francisco Bay Area’s leading rug merchants.
Today, operating from Mountain View, California, the Rug Center continues to offer an extraordinary collection of handcrafted Oriental, Persian, and contemporary rugs from around the world.
