Detailed rug restoration work

The Rug Center / Rug Repair

Small repairs can protect a much larger story.

Loose edges, damaged fringe, and unraveling corners deserve attention before more of the rug is lost. Our Mountain View team assesses structural damage and explains practical repair options for handmade and other area rugs.

01 / Rug Repair

Fringe and end protection

Fringe may be part of the rug's foundation rather than an added decoration. We examine how the end is constructed before recommending securing, repair, or reconstruction. Avoid trimming loose threads or applying household glue before inspection.

02

Binding, edges, and corners

A worn side can allow knots and foundation threads to loosen. We assess binding, side cords, and damaged corners, then discuss an approach appropriate to the construction, condition, and your goals for continued use.

Every rug begins a different conversation.

03 / Rug Repair

Repair or restoration?

A repair can stabilize a rug for everyday use. Restoration may involve more detailed work to preserve its design and character. For antique pieces, we discuss how much intervention is appropriate and whether preserving original material should take priority.

04

An estimate before work begins

Send clear photographs of the front, back, and damaged area beside a ruler. Include the overall dimensions. A photograph can start the discussion, while an in-person inspection may be needed to confirm the scope and estimate.

Before you begin

A few thoughtful
answers.

Speak with us →
Can you repair moth or pet damage?

We assess moth damage, chewed corners, holes, and weakened areas individually. Feasibility and the result depend on how much original structure remains.

Should I wash a damaged rug first?

Please ask before washing. A weakened edge or foundation may need stabilization before cleaning.

Will a repair be invisible?

We discuss realistic results after inspection. Materials, fading, and existing wear affect how closely a repair can blend.
