Choosing a Rug for a Palo Alto Open-Plan Room
Practical guidance from The Rug Center for Palo Alto homes. A thoughtful decision starts with measurements, photographs, and the way you want to live with the rug.

Start with the furniture, not the floor area
Measure the seating group and mark the space you want the rug to occupy with removable tape. Walk through the room as you normally would. Leave comfortable routes between doors, seating, and adjoining areas. An open-plan room may need several defined zones rather than one very large rug.
Pay attention to glazing and light
In an Eichler-style or other glass-rich room, daylight can make colors look quite different from their appearance on a phone screen. Compare the rug in person when possible and consider how direct sun reaches the floor over the day. Rotation can distribute use, but it cannot undo fading.

Bring the details to your consultation
Send room photographs, rug dimensions, and any relevant close-ups. Tell us what you hope to change and the constraints that matter. We can discuss selection, cleaning, repair, or appraisal from our Mountain View showroom. Advice from photographs is a starting point; an individual rug may require inspection.
